Every person in the Leja ecosystem has one Resident Identity Number. Your RIN is not a username or a score — it is your permanent identity in Nigeria’s residential economy. It travels with you when you move states, accumulates your payment history, your service work, and your property search behaviour, and stays attached to you regardless of which landlord, agent, or platform you interact with next. Your RIN looks like this: RIN-NG-2026-A7B3K9M2Z5Q. The format is RIN-NG-YYYY-XXXXXXXXXXX — country code, year of issuance, and a unique alphanumeric identifier.

One RIN per person

Leja enforces a single RIN per person using your National Identification Number (NIN) as the primary deduplication key. When you register, you enter your NIN first — before any other field. If a RIN already exists linked to that NIN, your account connects to your existing identity. No duplicate is created. This means your residential history cannot be split across multiple accounts, and you cannot start fresh by creating a second identity. The same RIN follows you whether you are acting as a tenant, a service provider, a property buyer, or a landlord.

Verification tiers

Your RIN starts at the tier that matches how it was created and upgrades as you verify your identity further. Each tier unlocks more of what you can do on Leja.
TierWhat triggers itScore ceilingWhat it unlocks
PROVISIONALAn agent adds you as a tenant before you have registered yourselfBronze onlyYour Trust Graph begins building in the background; you cannot yet activate Resident
NIN_REGISTEREDYou self-register and provide your NIN, or you claim a silently-issued RIN by registering on ResidentSilverResident dashboard activated; you can view your Trust Graph but cannot share data with third parties yet
NIN_VERIFIEDNIMC confirms your NIN matches your name and date of birth (typically within 24 hours of registration, automatic)GoldFull Resident access; standard consent sharing with landlords and agents enabled
DOCUMENT_VERIFIEDYou upload your NIN card and pass AI-assisted document verification and facial recognition with liveness checkPlatinumAll features enabled, including institutional sharing with banks and lenders
You do not need to reach DOCUMENT_VERIFIED to use Leja day to day. Most tenants operate comfortably at NIN_VERIFIED. The higher tiers are for people who want to share richer signals with lenders or apply for premium properties with strict vetting requirements.

Silent issuance: how your RIN may already exist

You may already have a RIN before you ever open Leja. When an agent adds you as a tenant in Leja Professional — even before you have created any account — the system creates a PROVISIONAL RIN tied to your phone number. Your payment history, lease events, and maintenance records start accumulating from that moment. When you later register on Resident and enter your NIN, the system matches you to your existing RIN. You do not get a new identity — you claim the one that has been building on your behalf. The full history your agent recorded is immediately visible in your dashboard. This is intentional. It means your verified residential history begins the moment your first tenancy is witnessed on Leja, not the moment you download the app.
Your RIN is permanent and cannot be deleted or reset. If you believe an event in your Trust Graph is incorrect, you can raise a dispute. A resolution note will be added to the record, but the original event and the correction both remain permanently. This applies to everyone — neither you nor your landlord can erase a witnessed record.

The three tracks your RIN accumulates

Your RIN builds a picture of you across three separate areas of your residential life. These tracks are kept separate — a landlord reviewing your rental application sees Track 1 signals, not your service provider ratings. Track 1 — Residential identity Everything you have done as a resident: tenancy history, payment behaviour, maintenance requests, deposit handling, dispute history, and short-let bookings. This is the track that landlords and agents consult when you apply for a property. Track 2 — Service provider identity If you work in the residential economy — as a plumber, electrician, cleaner, or any other trade — every completed job, rating, repeat-hire signal, and certification you hold is tracked here. This track is visible to anyone looking to hire for a job. Track 3 — Property consumer identity Your behaviour as someone searching the housing market: viewings attended, applications submitted, and search patterns. This track helps agents understand how serious you are as a buyer or renter, and it feeds into the deal seriousness signal visible to agents with your consent.

Your RIN is yours

When you leave a firm or an agency, your Professional Record — the chapter of your Trust Graph recording your work there — stays with your RIN. The firm cannot delete it or modify it. When you move cities, your Trust Graph does not reset. Your verified history in Lagos is just as accessible to a landlord in Abuja as it was to your previous one. The RIN is designed as national infrastructure. The NG in the format identifies it as a Nigerian residential identity — valid across all 36 states and the FCT.
